The Last Island

013-cat-people-theredlist

Cat People is a 1942 film directed by Jacques Tourneur. The original screenplay, written by DeWitt Bodeen, was based on Val Lewton’s short story The Bagheeta published in 1930. The film stars Simone Simon, Kent Smith, Jane Randolph and Tom Conway.

This is the story of Irena, a young Serbian woman in Manhattan, who believes that, because of an ancient curse, any physical intimacy with the man she loves will turn her into a feline predator.

An extraordinary work of photography by Nicholas Musuraca.

Friday Night Films: «The Ladykillers» by Alexander Mackendrick

The Last Island

Here’sone of my favourite fims. A masterpiece. A must see.

the_ladykillers-664308624-largeThe Ladykillers is a 1955 British black comedyfilm made by Ealing Studios. Directed byAlexander Mackendrick, it stars Katie Johnson, Alec Guinness, Cecil Parker, Herbert Lom, Peter Sellers, Danny Green and Jack Warner.

Sinopsis

Friday Night Films: «The day of The Jackal» by Fred Zinnemann

The Last Island

day_of_the_jackal_1973_poster

The day of The Jackal (1973) is a thriller based on the novel by Frederick Forsyth, directed by Fred Zinnemann and starring Edward Fox.

The film is about a professional assassin known as «The Jackal» who is hired to assassinate French president Charles De Gaulle in the summer of 1963.

I think Edward Fox is perfect as the murderer. The English actor did an excellent job. He’s got the magnetism needed to give credibility to a character characterized by the coldness.

And it’s fascinating to see the meticulous work of this mysterious murderer to prepare the assassination.

Truly it’s’s one of those movies that you never seem to get bored watching.

When young Charlie, Carrie and Paul move to a small village during World War II, they discover their host, Miss Price (Angela Lansbury), is an apprentice witch! Although her early attempts at magic create hilarious results, she successfully casts a traveling spell on an ordinary bedknob, and they fly to the fantastic, animated…

The Last Island

Friday night films is a new section of this blog which opens today with my favourite film of James Stewart: Harvey

Harveymovie

Harvey is a 1950 comedy drama film based on Mary Chase’s play of the same name, directed by Henry Koster, and starring James Stewart and Josephine Hull. The story is about a man whose best friend is a pooka named Harvey — in the form of a six-foot, three-and-a-half-inch tall invisible rabbit. about a man whose best friend is a pooka named Harvey — in the form of a six-foot, three-and-a-half-inch tall invisible rabbit.

Elwood P. Dowd: Harvey and I sit in the bars… have a drink or two… play the juke box. And soon the faces of all the other people they turn toward mine and they smile. And they’re saying, «We don’t know your name, mister, but you’re a very nice fella.» Harvey and I warm ourselves in all these…

The Cardinal Virtue

“–Is a sense of humor,” says Carole. “Do you laugh in the right places? Then, you’ll get along, in fair weather or foul. Humor is nothing less than a sense of the fitness of things. Something that’s out of proportion, like an inflated ego, should strike you funny, particularly if it’s your own inflated ego. Otherwise you are pathetic and quite hopeless.”
