‘Virgin of the Rocks’ by Leonardo da Vinci

‘Virgin of the Rocks’ by Leonardo da Vinci

The London National Gallery is a beautiful refuge of countless masterpieces. Faced with such excessive image of beauty in lines, colors and shapes that can be found in the paintings on exhibit there, there is no choice but to surrender to them. An example is this work of Master Leonardo da Vinci: ‘Virgin of the Rocks’.

«Virgin of the Rocks» is a name used to describe two paintings by Leonardo da Vinci painted the same painting technique oil on panel. The Louvre version was transferred to canvas from the original wood panel, but preserved in the National Gallery is still on board. In 2005 it was discovered a third attributed to Leonardo version being shown at the exhibition, Leonardo: Genius and visione in terra marchigiana.
